A show of strength

MUNDUBBERA Show Society has benefited from grants from the Enterprise Foundation, the charitable arm of Bendigo Bank.

The show grounds were identified locally as a sound and safe emergency base in time of disaster.

Some of the funds raised to benefit Mundubbera after the 2010-11 floods have been used to upgrade the barbecue and kitchen areas.

“It’s more than 32 years since the barbecue area was built and this refurbishment has meant we now have new barbecues and new stainless steel bench spaces,” said Mundubbera Show Society treasurer Gayle Pott.

“And we’ve opened up the internal walls for better access.

“Our facilities were used by those affected by the floods last year and now we’ll be able to cope much better in future emergencies and our patrons will also benefit.”

Mundubbera Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank chairman Tim Duggan attended a recent cook-up to open the facilities.

“These funds have been allocated to benefit our town because we have a community bank,” Mr Duggan said.

“It’s wonderful to see $46,750 used to benefit our community and more funds will be allocated in the new year to help light up the showground.”
