PEOPLE eligible for the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme accommodation component will stay free at Rotary Lodge in Bundaberg from January 1.
With the State Government doubling the accommodation subsidy rate from $30 to $60 per night, the Bundaberg Health Services Foundation will no longer seek a $10 copayment from eligible patients and carers.
The scheme provides assistance to isolated patients, and in some cases their carers, to enable them to access specialist medical services that are not available locally.
Foundation chairman Janet Tallon said the change would be “a considerable financial gain” for patient and carers using the lodge.
She said those patients or carers who are not eligible for the PTSS will be required to pay the current rate of $40 per person.
Application forms must be completed by a doctor and forwarded to the hospital nearest to the patient’s place of residence to claim eligibility.
This must be approved before the patient travels to Bundaberg to be eligible to stay at the lodge for free.
