Local government reform on agenda

Central and North Burnett Times - - OPINION -

RECENTLY the government announced four previous councils had passed to the next stage of de-amalgamation.

There are still many areas of Queensland that would have liked the opportunity to deamalgamate in some form or other, but the government made the conditions so tough that most did not bother to submit a claim.

Nevertheless, there is huge discontent out there and some people are doing their best to generate support and mount a challenge to the government.

On February 23, 2013, a forum will take place in Stanthorpe that will debate local government reform. Key speakers will include Professor Brian Drollery, UK-based Dr Phillip Blond, Dr Scott Prasser and Senator Barnaby Joyce.

There may be acceptances from other persons invited.

Registration will take place at 9am for a start at 9.30am. If you want to know more, contact 4166 1497. Jack Muller
