Community comes out for fun in park
CHRISTMAS in the Park 2012 was a resounding success and is set to be Mundubbera’s community festive season event well into the future.
There was something for every age group and an old Mundubbera favourite, toad races, made its return.
For many years the town celebration was held in Lyons St, but last year Mundubbera Kindergarten took on the challenge of organising the event for the first time and changed the venue to Archer Park.
Organisers were overwhelmed with the support and success of the first Christmas in the Park and decided to run with a similar format this year.
“It was a brilliant evening and all involved with the kindy are so grateful to the sponsors, the stallholders and the whole community who came out to support us and have fun,” Mundubbera Kindergarten committee member Kristy Townsend said.
When the toads were auctioned as part of the kindergarten fundraising Mayor Don Waugh bought one of the winners.
Just after 8pm the announcer advised parents to find their children before the lights went out in readiness for the fireworks.
Local stud cattle producer Clint Whitaker said he was impressed by the fireworks.
“I’ve seen fireworks at lots of places when I exhibit my cattle, but these tonight were fantastic,” he said.
