Pearl goes way back
MONTO woman Pearl Nowland recently turned 103, and she is taking each year in her stride.
The Ridgehaven Retirement Complex resident was born on December 1, 1909, and arrived in Monto in the early days of the town when there were no sealed roads.
She and her husband Vivian built the first house in Coominglah Range.
“We felled all the scrub and lived in a tent while the house was being built,” Mrs Nowland said. “Our first car was on four legs.”
She said she was always a gardener, and her husband a piano player. They have four children – Max, Nancy, Faye and Les.
CENTURY OF LIVING: Pearl Nowland, now 103.
