Keep the little ones cool during heatwave
PARENTS are being warned to keep babies and young children cool during the heatwave. Scorching temperatures are forecast in the Central and North Burnett next week. Queensland chief health officer Jeannette Young said babies and children could struggle to adapt to changing temperatures. “Children have a lower capacity to sweat, which reduces the body’s ability to cool itself,” Dr Young said. The Queensland Ambulance Service recommends giving children plenty of water, and avoiding the use of ice and carbonated drinks that can cause dehydration. Cooling them downin a shower or bath, or even spraying them with cool water from a hose will help.
