IGA man­ager wel­comed

MONTO IGA has wel­comed a new man­ager for the new year.

Peter Gib­ney ar­rived on De­cem­ber 28 from his post­ing at IGA Daisy Hill.

Mr Gib­ney, 57, has worked in su­per­mar­kets his en­tire work­ing life af­ter fin­ish­ing school and en­ter­ing the Wool-worths Man­age­ment Train­ing Pro­gram. He then worked through­out Queens­land and also spent some time in Dar­win be­fore mov­ing from Wool­worths to IGA.

Mr Gib­ney is fast be­com­ing a lo­cal, hav­ing joined the RSL, and he is about to join the golf club.

He has noth­ing but praise for the spirit of Monto.

“I can­not be­lieve how wel­com­ing and warm peo­ple are in this town,” he said.

“I have had more peo­ple wave and say g’day to me in a week in Monto than 10 years in Bris­bane.”

Mr Gib­ney is mar­ried and has two adult chil­dren.
