Christmas lunch to be an annual event
HOLDING a free Christmas lunch is set to become a new Mundubbera tradition after another successful meal was enjoyed by 110 people.
The festive lunch, open to all who were away from family on this special day, was made possible by Mundubbera Bendigo Community Bank, the people of the local Baptist church and the council, which donated the use of the town hall supper rooms.
Pastor Paul Dare said this time of year was “extremely difficult” for those without family or friends around.
“This is our way of saying today you have friends in Mundubbera who care for you and want you to have a great Christmas as well,” he said.
About 70 backpackers attended the event.
“It was a great way to thank them for their efforts during the grape harvest, and it also exposed them to the Aussie culture that is Christmas,” Pastor Dare said.
Also attending were locals who would have otherwise been alone and tourists passing through.
“The tourists said the town should be proud of this event because in all their travels they had not seen an event such as this,” Pastor Dare said.
