WHILE everyone else was in on the secret, Niki Burchett had no idea her partner of seven years was about to pop the question.

In amongst the fireworks at Paradise Dam on New Year’s Eve, over the PA system caretaker Corey Goldie asked Ms Burchett to marry him.

And although taken by total surprise, she had no hesitation in saying “yes”.

Later Ms Burchett said shewas genuinely surprised by the romantic gesture.

“Everyone else knew, but I had no idea,” she said.

“I’m really impressed how he included it in with the fireworks.

“I think the surrounds of the Paradise Dam would be a good venue (to get married).”

Mr Goldie said ever since they, with their son Harry, had moved from Maryborough to take over the caretaking position at Paradise Dam on July 1 last year, they had been in a happier place.

“If you can work together and live together, you may as well get married as that’s what marriage is,” he said.
