Roos keen to defend title
MONTO’S premiership-winning rugby league team knows it needs to lift a gear to defend their 2012 title.
After taking a break from the hard hits of the season, the boys in the Roos started preparing for 2013 with touch football before moving to pool sessions before Christmas.
Captain Shane Carter is under no illusions about how his team must approach the upcoming season, particularly with the addition of Theodore bringing an element of surprise to the Central Burnett Rugby League competition.
“We have much the same team as last year, but we will have to step up another level and train harder if we are to be a chance of defending our title,” Carter said.
“We started fitness training with ball skills on Tuesday with another session tonight and will continue for a month before getting more serious.”
So far no dates have been set for trials, but the team is hoping for a hit out with Calliope.
But on February 9 the club will host its annual golden oldies versus young guns just to remind everyone of their footballing abilities and fitness.
The club will also be holding its sign-on day on January 26 at the Monto Golf Club.

NEW SEASON: The Roos proudly hold the premiership trophy for 2012, but they know it is a long road to be Central Burnett title holders in 2013.
