ers,” she said.
The children nominate themselves to enter an event and if they place first, second or third they will go to Brisbane for the State Championships later in the year.
The day in Bundaberg will feature 70m, 100m and 200m sprints and the field events will be javelin, shotput, discus, high hump, long jump and triple jump.
Monto’s Taine Rooney is still in his first season and only joined after becoming age champion at Mulgildie State School’s interhouse athletics meeting.
The 10 year old will compete in the discus, high jump, javelin, shotput and long jump.
“I have been training pretty hard,” he said.
“My best event is discus and I am feeling quietly confident.”
The children pictured also competed in the Pentathlon at Childers on December 1 with four others also competing – Tasha O’Sullivan, Riley and Saxon Allen and Taylah Steger. Some of the notable performances from that day saw Jessie and Mitch Moscrop winning gold medals, and Riley Allen a bronze.
There were also many personal bests achieved.
