Yards get EU rating
THE February All Breeds Steer Sale will see both European Union accredited cattle and non-EU cattle sold.
Biggenden Saleyards became EU-accredited in May last year and is the only EU saleyard in the Wide Bay Burnett. Accreditation allows the saleyards to sell EU scheme and non-EU scheme cattle.
Burnett Livestock and Realty’s Lance Whitaker said EU accreditation was something Biggenden Saleyards had wanted to do for some time.
“Becoming an EU saleyards is an in-depth process but it is something we are now very proud of,” he said.
“We see this as another option we can offer our vendors and another way to ensure the best returns for our clients.”
EU scheme cattle are from properties where the owner has undertaken the accreditation process and features (in general terms) no use of hormonal growth promotant, full lifetime traceability and cattle bred by the vendor or from another EU-accredited property.
