BJD info meetings for Qld
MINISTER for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry John McVeigh will lead a series of regional meetings for producers affected by Bovine Johne’s disease.
Mr McVeigh said meetings would be held in Gympie, Biloela, Rockhampton, Emerald, Mackay, Charters Towers, Cloncurry and Roma in the next few weeks.
“All producers affected by BJD in Queensland will receive an invitation and are welcome to attend any of the meetings,” he said.
“The meetings will act as a workshop for affected producers, their private vets and government to collectively discuss the BJD response.”
Mr McVeigh said the workshops followed industry forums and teleconferences held since last November.
“They are in response to requests from producers who want to further discuss the BJD process,” Mr McVeigh said.
“We will also be making arrangements for those producers, who live in a remote area and wish to be part of the discussion.”
Mr McVeigh said the State Government would work with industry to resolve the BJD situation in Queensland.
“We’ve recently announced a kick-start to an assistance program (the Queensland Cattle Industry Biosecurity Fund),” he said.
