BJD info meet­ings for Qld

MIN­IS­TER for Agri­cul­ture, Fish­eries and Forestry John McVeigh will lead a se­ries of re­gional meet­ings for pro­duc­ers af­fected by Bovine Johne’s disease.

Mr McVeigh said meet­ings would be held in Gympie, Biloela, Rockhampton, Emer­ald, Mackay, Char­ters Tow­ers, Clon­curry and Roma in the next few weeks.

“All pro­duc­ers af­fected by BJD in Queens­land will re­ceive an in­vi­ta­tion and are wel­come to at­tend any of the meet­ings,” he said.

“The meet­ings will act as a work­shop for af­fected pro­duc­ers, their pri­vate vets and government to col­lec­tively dis­cuss the BJD re­sponse.”

Mr McVeigh said the work­shops fol­lowed in­dus­try fo­rums and tele­con­fer­ences held since last Novem­ber.

“They are in re­sponse to re­quests from pro­duc­ers who want to fur­ther dis­cuss the BJD process,” Mr McVeigh said.

“We will also be mak­ing ar­range­ments for those pro­duc­ers, who live in a re­mote area and wish to be part of the dis­cus­sion.”

Mr McVeigh said the State Government would work with in­dus­try to re­solve the BJD sit­u­a­tion in Queens­land.

“We’ve re­cently an­nounced a kick-start to an as­sis­tance pro­gram (the Queens­land Cat­tle In­dus­try Biose­cu­rity Fund),” he said.
