Redcliffe group offers $5500 to Gayndah RSL cleanup
WAR veterans have given a helping hand to their fellow diggers.
Redcliffe’s Post 1955 Veterans Group donated $5500 to help members of Gayndah RSL affected by floods.
Post 1955 Veterans Group secretary Ron Bulmer attended the Anzac service in Gayndah last week and met with the local RSL.
“We are glad to help,” Mr Bulmer said.
“We gave a donation for the welfare of some veterans after the flood.
“It has been greatly received,” he said.
Mr Bulmer said the money was raised through the work of his group’s 40 Redcliffe members.
Gayndah RSL secretary Craig Fothergill said the money would help with the costs of flood repairs.
“We’ll split the share of that pool to five of our members who were affected by the flood,” Mr Fothergill said.
For Mr Bulmer, visiting Gayndah was also a chance to reminisce.
“I used to play football for Wondai and we would come up to Gayndah many times, in the mid 60s,” he said.
Asked who had the better team, Mr Bulmer remained tight lipped.
“I won’t get into that debate,” he said with a grin.
