Blake builds on personal bests

A BIGGENDEN boy set new personal records at the state swimming championships.

Blake Bechly swam his heart out at the Queensland Primary School State Swimming Championships at Brisbane, helping his team come third in the relay.

But Bechly set the pool on fire, setting personal bests all day.

In the 100m freestyle he tied for 10th place and then in the swim-off he set another personal best to secure himself a place in the final.

He took out eighth place, which was another personal best.

Bechly’s coach, Ron Birch, said he was over the moon.

“To back up after three races and swim personal bests, especially when you are swimming against boys almost 12 months older, is just great,” he said.

As winter sets in Blake will head east to Maryborough in July to keep his fitness up as the Biggenden Pool is closed for the winter.
