Open to heavy ve­hi­cles

SANDY Creek Bridge on the Biggenden-Mary­bor­ough Rd has been re­opened to heavy ve­hi­cles af­ter a tem­po­rary load re­stric­tion.

In mid-April a 20-tonne load re­stric­tion was put on the bridge. Fur­ther is­sues with a bridge py­lon was iden­ti­fied and TMR re­duced the load limit to 10 tonnes in the in­ter­est of safety and to pro­tect the as­set from fur­ther dam­age.

A Trans­port and Main Roads rep­re­sen­ta­tive said th­ese ini­tial bridge and safety re­pairs to Sandy Creek Bridge were com­pleted last week.

“This has al­lowed reg­u­la­tion mass ve­hi­cles to re­turn to us­ing the sin­gle lane struc­ture,” the rep­re­sen­ta­tive said.

“Th­ese tem­po­rary works in­cluded pro­vid­ing sup­ple­men­tary tim­ber sup­ports tomake the bridge safe for all road users.”

The rep­re­sen­ta­tive said a bridge crew would re­turn to site at a later date to com­plete fi­nal re­pairs, and a full day clo­sure will be re­quired.
