Buy local to support our economy

Central and North Burnett Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

THE NORTH Burnett Region Futures Program is promoting ‘buy local’ in a bid to help the region’s economic recovery.

The program’s economic development consultant Lisa Wain said it was the framework for councils and the State Government to buy local.

“Queensland has 412,000 small businesses or one quarter of the state’s economy, this represents 90% of businesses and employs 50% of private sector workers,” Mrs Wain said.

“Each dollar spent in a local business returns many times that amount to the local economy through wages, rates and purchase of materials.”

“If we can help businesses provide goods and services to local and State Government then locals might sub contract to larger companies, such as in the area of road maintenance,” Mrs Wain said.

The North Burnett Region Futures Program will be running procure-ment workshops for businesses to get on local and State Government-preferred supply lists.
