Climb to re­mem­ber Walsh

THE first man to climb the moun­tain that was later named af­ter him will be hon­oured with a day of cel­e­bra­tions on Satur­day, June 1, at Biggenden.

It is now 125 years since the death of Henry Walsh who was an ex­plorer, squat­ter of Degilbo and later a politi­cian.

Acom­mit­tee have or­gan­ised a pro­gram of events from break­fast and reg­is­tra­tions at Degilbo Hall be­fore par­tic­i­pants find their way by rid­ing a horse or bike or walk­ing to Mt Walsh National Park.

While those in­ter­ested climb Mt Walsh for oth­ers there will be chil­dren’s games and ranger dis­play along with an all day sausage siz­zle.

At night in the show hall, pa­trons are asked to dress in pe­riod cos­tume for a din­ner dance. There will be a bar, camp over din­ner, lucky door prizes, his­tor­i­cal dis­play, ta­ble games, mu­sic and danc­ing.

The event is be­ing spon­sored by the North Bur­nett Coun­cil, Queens­land Cham­ber of Com­merce Biggenden Branch and Degilbo Hall Restora­tion & So­cial Club.
