Soil sample analysis

Central and North Burnett Times - - RURAL UPDATE -

LOCAL farmers have been introduced to the technique of making paper chromatographs. Mundubbera’s Central Burnett Landcare Group hosted a workshop to help farmers analyse soil samples.

Central Burnett Landcare president David Rolfe and secretary Marion Denholm learned the process at a threeday course in Yandina, on the Sunshine Coast, last year.

“This workshop focused on using paper chromatography to analyse soil samples, including the minerals, proteins and enzymes present,” Ms Denholm said.

“The ability to keep an eye on the changes that are hap- pening to your land is very important,” she said

“A small investment of time and effort to make paper chromatographs will allow the farmer to monitor the condition of her soils over time.”
