Essential Queensland to go on show at Mundubbera
THE touring exhibition of the prestigious 2012 Queensland Regional Arts Awards, Essential Queensland, will open at the Mundubbera Regional Art Gallery from this Saturday through to Wednesday, July 10.
Curated by John Waldron, the exhibition features the art work of 30 of the finest emerging and established artists working in regional and remote Queensland.
The theme, The Essential Character of Queensland, invited artists to respond to and explore how the theme related to the lives, the people and the places of regional and remote Queensland.
Mundubbera Regional Art Gallery co-ordinator Roslyn Berthelsen said she was thrilled the exhibition was able to come.
“This touring exhibition shows regional and remote artists in their best light,” she said.
“It provides a wonderful opportunity for them to show their work to a wider audience.
“It is also a great opportunity for our community to see the work of artists from other communities who chose to live and work in the region of Queensland.”
The Queensland Regional Arts Awards is a hallmark event produced by Flying Arts, which for more than 40 years has been providing visual arts development services throughout Queensland.
Executive officer of Flying Arts Stephen Clark said he was pleased the touring exhibition was in Mundubbera.
“The awards encourage participation and recognise excellence,” he said.
The official launch of the exhibition will take place at the Mundubbera Regional Art Gallery this Saturday in Gallery 1 in conjunction with the opening of the Mundubbera Kindergarten Students Exhibition in Gallery 2.
