Local butchers snag string of top awards
MUNDUBBERA is butchering the competition with its famous sausages.
The guys from Mundubbera Butchering Co. picked up a first, a second and a third prize in round one of the National Sausage King Competition.
The delicious creation of Moroccan lamb with raisins and almonds won the lamb category in Yeppoon last Sunday.
Butcher Tim Duggan said they placed third in the same category, with a honey mustard lamb sausage.
“And we got second out of 58 in the gourmet sausages,” Mr Duggan said.
“Imagine having to judge 58 sausages – I wouldn’t want that job!”
The second place sausage was beef with caramelised onion and mozzarella cheese.
Mundubbera Butchering Co. is no stranger to success in the competition.
In 2007, it was crowned National Sausage King for its pork snags.
The butchers will head to the Queensland state finals later in the year.
The first round of competition will see Queensland divided into six regions. Mundubbera Butchering Co. will be part of Capricorn, which takes in Bundaberg and Mackay.
