Footy skills earn Dawson spot on Wide Bay U14 team
League stars offer Broncos scholarship
DAWSON Cross, of Mundubbera, has impressed and gained selection in the Under-14 Wide Bay Bulls rugby league team to play in Pittsworth in late June.
Petero Civoniceva and Mario Fenech were impressed with his speed and ball skills when they were in the area in early April.
In fact, they were so impressed, Dawson was offered a full scholarship with the Broncos.
Mum Auriel Chambers said they turned it down as he was only in Year 9 and it would have meant moving to Brisbane.
“Maybe after he completes Year 10 we can relook at it,” she said.
Dawson plays for the Central Burnett Brumbies under-14 team on weekends in the South Burnett competition.
His form gained him selection in the South Burnett team that recently played in the 47th Battalion in Maryborough, where hewas selected, along with Brooweena’s Jack Gauld, in the Wide Bay team.
“Therewere at least 10 boys from the Central Burnett who travelled down for selection in the South Burnett team and it was disappointing only Dawson was selected,” Mrs Chambers said.
Dawson has also been selected in the CQNRL Bid Squad.
“They are hoping that by the time these boys are playing under-20 then they should have an NRL side,” she said.
