Classic draws in crowds

Central and North Burnett Times - - LOCAL SPORT -

GOLFERS swung through Gayndah lastweekend for the Barlyne Golf Classic.

There was even a touch of celebrity at the event, with Allan Langer dropping in to have a chat with the locals and visitors.

The Barlyne Golf Classic is a huge fundraiser for the Gayndah Golf Club and was held on Saturday, May 11.

After significant repairs following the Australia Day floods, the club house was operational and packed wall to wall. It was the first time the bar has opened since the floods and 69 golfers made the most of the facilities.

Players attended from Gayndah, Mundubbera, Hervey Bay, Brisbane and Noosa.

The local contingent featured heavily on the winners’ board, with Gayndah golfers Phil Duncan, James Duncan and Stephen Zahl taking first place with 51 ½ nett.

Second place also went to the locals; with Mick Coulson, Clinton Slack and Ben Slack finishing on 51 5/6 nett.

For full results of the day see the sports briefs on page 28.
