Peugeot rally across nation
THE 60th Anniversary Redex Rerun started in Maitland and last Thursday almost 30 1950s and 60s Peugeot cars and one 1957 Volkswagen fuelled up in Mundubbera on the Dalby to Bundaberg leg.
The rerun is celebrating the Peugeot 203 victory in the original 1953 event with the rerun field comprised mostly of Peugeot 203s and 403s.
The spectacular win by Ken Tubman and John Marshall’s 203 in the 1953 Redex Trial put Peugeot on the motoring map in Australia and established the marque’s excellent reputation in this country.
All up, the rerun cars will cover 10,000km over four weeks.
From Bundaberg they headed for Emerald, then Longreach, Winton, Mt Isa and Tennant Creek.
Their route then heads north to Darwin, south to Alice Springs and then takes a detour to Yulara on the way to Coober Pedy.
From there they will leave for Port Augusta, then across South Australia and Victoria to Shepparton and Albury, then Canberra, finishing at Parramatta.
The last day will feature the famous horror section near Goulburn.
