THE team representing the Biggenden Show Society had to fight hard to retain their tug-o-war crown at the show on Saturday.

Once again councillor Lofty Wendt put up $1000 prize money for the men’s and women’s competitions.

Cr Wendt said the show was getting bigger and better every year.

“It was great to see a women’s team come up from the Sunshine Coast to experience our hospitality,” he said.

“My aim for this competition has always been to promote it to other towns and get more people through the gates.”

The show team didn’t have it all their own way as most of the tugs went to three pulls.

“There was some fantastic competition,” Cr Wendt said.

For the women the Old Fresians hadn’t lost their power and were easy winners on the day.
