Hitting the finals
BURNETT District Men’s and Ladies’ Bowling Association was represented at the recent State District Sides competition held on the Sunshine Coast.
Northern end Burnett women Bronwyn Torrens, Anne Faulkner, Nola Darlington, Chris Prygoda, Taleah Putney and manager Helen Walker were part of the side.
The Burnett District women played in Section B for the first three days at Caloundra Bowls Club, qualifying fifth (from 10) and winning a position in the finals of Division 3 of the state comp.
This year has seen the best placing for the Burnett District Ladies Association since participating in the state competition.
Play at Maroochydore saw Brisbane North District win the Division 3 trophy.
Other Burnett District women were represented by Kingaroy, Murgon, Tansey and Proston clubs.
The district team was very happy with its final position this year.
Burnett District Men’s Association team included players from the northern end of the district, including Barry Woodall, Brad Kielly, Nev Williams, Mark Torrens, Steve Meier, Ashley Harris and Brian Prygoda.
The men’s team played at Coolum Beach and gained a Division 4 place in the final.
They played at Caloundra the next day and the division was won by Gateway District.
Other Burnett District team members were represented in teams from Kingaroy, Murgon, Tansey, Wondai and Proston.
Monto’s Brad Kielly said he “absolutely loved” the experience, good bowls, competition and meeting players from all over the state.
BURNETT BOWLERS: Monto bowlers Brad Kielly, Mark Torrens, Rodney Rideout and Barry Woodall competed at the state championships (Ashley Harris, Steve Meyer, Bryan Prygoda and Neville Williams were the other North Burnett bowlers, while Rodney Rideout represented Bundaberg-Port Curtis).
