JOSEPHINE Howell has taken out the Rodeo Princess at Callide Valley Show in Biloela on her horse, Comanche.

The 17-year-old Monto girl has been riding Comanche since she was 8 and while her horse was broken in by someone else, Howell has trained him since.

The Rodeo Princess event is open to girls aged 13–18 andwas the feather in the cap for Howell after missing a similar event in Monto on a minor technicality.

The event is judged on horsemanship, outfit and questions.

Howell’s years of experience with her horse was evident through her superior riding skills. She tied with one other final competitor but correctly an- swered enough questions to win the event.

Being crowned Rodeo Princess gave her the honour of riding in the show’s parade and she calls this as the highlight of her riding career.
