Roos crack ton against Tigers

Central and North Burnett Times - - SPORT -

THE Monto Roos’ rugby league title defence appeared to be in safe hands when the team gave the Mundubbera Tigers a lesson in football.

Both teams were evenly matched with hard slog from the two sides trying to find holes in each other’s defences.

Monto finally found the way to the line when Shane Carter put DamienWilson into a gap to score in the corner for the opening try.

From here Monto kept Mundubbera in their own half but the visitors managed to push Monto back to their half.

The Roos found a break in the Tigers’ line and Blake Popp scored a length of the field try.

Monto was now looking very strong in attack with two quick tries to Daniel Nancarrow and Pat Bowman setting the scene for the remainder of the clash.

Monto punched plenty of holes in the Tigers’ defence.

Laurie Lee bagged two four pointers to bring the half-time score to 58-0.

The second half started with the Roos determined to drive the nail in the coffin of their opponents with tries to Luke Harm, Dean McCulloch and DamienWilson.

In the 63rd minute Toetu’u Fakaanga scored a consolation try for the visitors but it was too late with the home team running out winners 102-4.
