Central and North Burnett Times - - NEWS -

LAUGHTER and smiles indicated the success of the North Burnett community luncheon in Mundubbera.

Guest presenter Amanda Gore had people letting their hair down and abandoning their inhibitions while speaking and acting silly to their Joy Buddies.

Ms Gore also spoke about the need for psychological and emotional recovery after traumatic events such as the recent natural flood disasters.

She imparted practical techniques and advice.

She likened what the North Burnett has gone through to a war zone.

She said residents as a community were suffering post traumatic stress.

The luncheon was an initiative of the Human Social Disaster Recovery Sub Group.

Sub group chair Deputy Mayor Faye Whelan said the Human Social Disaster Recovery Sub Group was grateful to Amanda Gore and husband Ken as she donated her usual speaking fee back to support those affected by the recent disaster event.

“I find inspiration to carry on when we meet caring human beings such as Amanda and Ken,” Cr Whelan said.

The North Burnett luncheon was made possible through funding provided under the 2010/11 Community Development and Recovery Package, which is a joint initiative of the Federal and State Governments, under the Natural Relief and Recovery Arrangements.
