Looking forward to the challenge
Sue Sutcliffe saddles up for long ride in prestigious competition
COALSTOUN Lakes’ Sue Sutcliffe is looking forward to the challenge of the Tom Quilty Endurance Ride this weekend in Kilkivan.
The National Championship Endurance Ride is a prestigious ride attracting riders from Australia and overseas.
Mrs Sutcliffe said competitors came to ride in the 160km endurance ride, to endure the elements, enjoy the terrain and compete for the coveted silver buckle of Tom Quilty.
The Tom Quilty Endurance Ride was last held in Queensland in 2008 at Nanango.
Sutcliffe is riding Ra-Anji FireFly, an Arabian Mare, born and bred in the Toowoomba district.
She competed successfully in three Tom Quiltys and looks forward to the challenge of riding 160kms in one day.
“The ride will begin at midnight tomorrow and all riders will have 24 hours to complete the ride.
“My children Timothy and Gemma, who both enjoy endurance riding, will be there to support me and be on hand when I come in off each ridden section.
“I will face a vet panel six times during the ride to deem that the horse is always fit to continue,” she said.
Endurance riding is growing in the Biggenden district and this year will have the third endurance ride in September.
KILKIVAN BOUND: Coalstoun Lakes’ Sue Sutcliffe will compete in the TomQuilty Ride at Kilkivan this Saturday.
