PUNTERS headed to the Gayndah Jockey Club after the main street parade on Saturday.

The 2013 Gayndah Cup continued its long history at the historic racecourse.

Sydney man Robert Vajda made the journey to Gayndah to visit friends and said the race day was a highlight of the Orange Festival.

“I saw Black Caviar’s last race and you couldn’t even get near the track,” he said.

“And here you can walk right down to the fence and watch it up close.”

And despite being disappointed to lose more than he won from the bookies, Mr Vajda said he would love to come back.

“It’s awesome, it’s a real country race,” he said.

Five action packed races kept the punters entertained and the crowd stayed long after the last race to party.
