ATHLETICISM, competition, socialising and magnificent burgers will be features of the annual Monogorilby Sports Day this Saturday and everyone is welcome to attend.

Nominations for track and field events for primary children have already been received from Monogorilby, Abercorn, Durong, Mundubbera, Boynewood and Binjour schools but there’s plenty of room for more.

There will be a running event for preschoolers/toddlers and plenty of fun for the adults as they vie for the much prized Jerry Ateric shield.

“This shield is generally awarded to the team that is most successful in getting away with being flexible with the rules in the ball games,” Monogorilby State School principal Joanna Vidler said.

“It may set an appalling example to the children but much fun and laughter is had by all.”

As usual the catering team will produce some delicious fare including burgers and homemade sausage rolls, caramel slice, cakes and a wide range of drinks.

The event is run by Monogorilby school's P&C association and, as it is one of their major fundraisers for the year, there will be great prizes for the multi draw raffle and a hundreds board to help fill the coffers.

“As well as a full wallet, loud voice, and a good spirit please do bring a coat as if it is cool anywhere, it will be cooler here,” Ms Vidler said.

Nominations will be taken on the day, but early ones are preferred.

To nominate phone Peta Weier on 4165 8118 or email monoschoolbus@big

As always it will be sport and friendliness that are the real winners on the day.

SUCCESS: Brooke Radke and Ellie Jenkinson at last year’s event.
