IT IS next stop EKKA for this cattle club that is putting Monto on the map.

Monto State High School gave its larger counterparts a lesson at the Rockhampton Show, finishing third behind Rockhampton Grammar School and Rockhampton State School.

Student Cassie Wilson said it was a particularly high achievement as Monto had just 13 students.

“We must have got a lot of very high placings and it has brought us all closer together,” she said. “It has given us enormous pride as it is putting Monto on the map.

“We can do it, we’re not just some middle-of-nowhere country town.

“Cattle club is great fun and it gives us confidence in public speaking in addressing a crowd.

“We were the smallest school there and now the next stop is the EKKA.”

The placings are worked out with three points per student who participates and more points for higher placings.
