THE Biggenden QCWA branch has a long and proud history but it all could come to an end if residents don’t answer the group’s plea for members.

Formed on June 10, 1926 by QCWA founder Ruth Fairfax, the branch had its first meeting on July 9, 1926.

In those early days there were branches at Coalstoun Lakes, Dallarnil, Degilbo and Didcot.

IF THE executive positions are not filled at the Biggenden QCWA meeting in late July there is a possibility the branch may close.

Member Nancy Brady said if this happened it meant the doors to the building would also close.

The rooms are well patronised with meetings, birthday parties, church functions and the weekly craft group.

Mrs Brady said groups using the rooms would have to find other premises.

The Biggenden branch was formed on Thursday, June 10, 1926 by QCWA founder Ruth Fairfax and it had its first meeting on July 9, 1926.

In those early days there were branches at Coalstoun Lakes, Dallarnil, Degilbo and Didcot.

Over the years, members have provided gifts of food, clothing and support to needy cases.

The association’s objectives are to improve the welfare and conditions for women and children, especially in the country, to be loyal to Australia and to promote international understanding.

Biggenden residents keen to answer the plea from the Biggenden QCWA are welcome to the next monthly meeting on Monday, July 8, or the annual meeting on July 27.

“We will welcome anyone as new members bring new ideas,” Mrs Brady said.

MORE MEMBERS NEEDED: Biggenden QCWA members Bev Geissler, Nancy Brady and Jane McDonald don't want the branch to close but it could if more members aren't forthcoming.
