History of Squash

Central and North Burnett Times - - NEWS -

Squash originated from the ancient game of tennis, also known as le Pauem (the palm of the hand). The use of stringed rackets dates from the 16th century. Squash is directly descended from the English game of racquets. Racquets is played outdoors and involves hitting an unsqueezable ball made of cloth against one or two walls.

Squash developed out of racquets at Harrow School, England, around 1830. The ball was made out of rubber and students modified their rackets to have a smaller reach in the cramped court conditions.
