Kids love Big Day Out

Central and North Burnett Times - - AROUND TOWN -

SCHOOL is out and kids are squealing with delight, climbing rock walls and on target with archery.

More than 100 kids converged at Mundubbera P-10 oval to take part in the Big Day Out, this week.

Big Day Out caters for kids from prep through to high school with activities designed to build confidence and teamwork while also having fun.

The day was designed to have a supportive rather than a competitive environment.

“The report at lunchtime was that they don’t want to go home,” co-ordinator Allan Cowburn said.

“The rock climbing wall has been a huge hit with a number of kids making it to the top.

“They don’t just have one go and it has been good to see the progression when their next turn they would go a little bit higher.”

Activities co-ordinator Sam Skerman, from Vertec Adventures, said the activities were portals to help the kids develop positive values.

A symbol of a hand was used throughout the activities to remind kids to be positive.

“These things help us make friends, build the team and help us to work together really well,” Mr Sherman said.

“We empower the kids and they work together to try to build these characteristics.

“We give them ownership and they hold each other accountable.”
