The fishing slowed a little immediately after the 127mm we had last week but over the weekend plenty of fish have been caught. Lots of small bass have been caught mainly on lures such as blades - a lot of fun for everyone, young or old. Plenty of big yellowbelly being caught over the last few days on jigging blades and deep diving lures in purples, black/red, greens/orange. The yellowbelly still sitting fairly deep around the 4.5m and deeper. These nice yellowbelly (above) were caught by Jake Davis who is back again staying with his Grandparents. Jake and his grandparents are regular visitors to the dam and Jake was very pleased with his catch. He caught his yellowbelly on purple deep diving lure and his last one was so big it even broke his rod!!! Redclaw have slowed right down with the cold weather and not much flow in from the recent rain. Dam level is at 69%.
Well the big bass are back, lots of reports this week of 50cm bass landed. They were manly caught flicking spinnerbaits and crank baits at the banks. Great numbers of yellowbelly with bait and on the troll. With the moon faze and barometer (on the move) signs are set for the next few weeks leading into Easter. Redclaw have slowed because of the rain but those who venture up into the rivers are being rewarded with some big ones. So its quality not quantity with the redclaw at the moment.
