Oscar on high are win

Central and North Burnett Times - - GAYNDAH SHOW -

OSCAR proved he was a true athlete by springing from the ground to above spectators’ heads.

Owner Terry Slack said the five-year-old border collie cross kelpie had form going into the show high jump.

“We have a lovely collection of trophies that collect dust,” he said.

Oscar usually spent most of his time working cattle, but wowed the crowd in a tough competition to take out his fourth win at the high jump.

Mr Slack said he didn’t do any special training with Oscar in the lead-up to the event.

“Mostly it is just hopping in and out of the ute every day when they go to work,” he said.

Mr Slack said he looked for loyalty and athleticism in a working dog.

When in competition, Mr Slack rewarded Oscar with praise for each of his successes.

“They do enjoy it (the competition),” Mr Slack said.

“I try not to let him fail too much, I want him to succeed.”
