Family uncovers final resting place

Central and North Burnett Times - - AROUND TOWN -

THIS Anzac Day, 60 years after his death, the family of the late William Charles Murton now know where his last resting place is.

With his brothers, Victor Harold and Arthur Samuel, the Murton boys left the family farm at Gooroolba and joined up on December 31, 1915, to serve in the First World War.

Great nephew Gary Murton, of Hervey Bay, made the discovery of his pauper’s grave while researching his family tree.

“We had lost contact with him, we knew he had died but didn’t know where he was buried,” Mr Murton said. “Through my research I was able to locate his unmarked grave in the Maryborough cemetery.

“With the help of the Department of Veteran Affairs and the War Graves Commission I was able to get a military headstone erected.”
