Danny has chop at Dingle bros
DANNY Staib skipped breakfast on Saturday, but thought the show-bought steak burger he had for lunch gave him the fuel to give the Dingles the chop in the A-grade championship.
Luke, Broady and Peter Dingle made up three of the five competitors in the wood chop championship event, but it was new father Danny that came out on top.
“I was thinking of going to Sydney to take part in the Royal Easter Show wood chopping,” he said.
“But I’ve got a six-week-old son so I thought I’d stay home with him and his mum.”
It was no surprise that the other standout in this year’s wood chopping was 15-year-old Kurt Dingle.
The teenager won the open 11-inch underhand, 12-inch underhand and 10-inch standing events.
“It was good because I won some vouchers and about $500,” he said.
Great-uncle and show president Arthur Dingle was seen at the wood chopping arena most of the day, and placed fifth in the over-60s standing event.
“Kurt was outstanding today,” he said.
JOB DONE: The woodchoppers did well in the sweltering heat.
