Proud day for Pope
MUNDUBBERA’S Shawna Pope will join some of the brightest young athletes from around the world to take part in this year’s Gold Coast Netball Carnival from Saturday to July 12.
Shawna has been chosen in the 14 years and under Australian Indigenous Netball Team and will be playing in the positions she loves; wing defence and wing attack.
“My mother, Melanie Pope, trains me very hard, and five to six days a week we can be found at practice,” Shawna said.
She has played competition netball since she was eight, representing Mundubbera, Gayndah and the North Burnett netball teams.
“I am looking forward to catching up with friends and team mates who I played with back in January in the National Indigenous Netball Team.”
Shawna also wanted to thank her coaches, Mrs Whelan, Mrs Rackemann and Aunty Carol Beutel.
“I know how important it is to thank the very special people who have helped me on my journey,” Shawna said.
Teams from New Zealand and Tonga will be very strong as they have been in past years.
It will be a great opportunity to watch the world’s best netball players compete on the Gold Coast.
