Filling up with trash

Superdump might be needed

MUNDUBBERA could be home to a superdump as part of a future waste management plan for the North Burnett, according to Mayor Don Waugh.

With three of the North Burnett’s five landfill sites due to expire within the decade, Cr Waugh said long-term waste disposal options were needed.

“Mundubbera and Monto have extended time spans in excess of 20 to 30 years, with sufficient land to extend the facilities,” he said.

While no immediate changes were planned, Cr Waugh said a superdump remained a future option.

The conversion of one or two landfill sites to transfer stations was also an option, as was full recycling, which Cr Waugh said had so far been “beyond us” due to the region’s small population.

“We’re keeping abreast of all that’s available and the regulations,” he said.
