TV re­tune needed as space made for mo­bile broad­band

NORTH Bur­nett res­i­dents will soon need to re-tune their TVs as free-to-air tele­vi­sion chan­nels are moved to new fre­quen­cies to free up space for mo­bile broad­band and other ser­vices.

The es­ti­mated dates for the re­tune in the North Bur­nett are: Wed­nes­day, July 30, at 3.30pm for Monto; Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 8, at 5am for Biggen­den, Gayn­dah, Mt Perry and Mun­dub­bera; and Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 9, for Eidsvold.

There may be tem­po­rary out­ages – no longer than a few hours – to all TV chan­nels in the days leading up to, on the day of, and the day or two af­ter the re­tune date.

Some people within the same town may have dif­fer­ent re­tune dates, if more than one TV tower ser­vices the area.

To check which trans­mit­ter you are re­ceiv­ing from and when your re­tune is re­quired, visit www.dig­i­tal­ready.gov.au/re­tune.

Some dig­i­tal equip­ment will au­to­mat­i­cally de­tect and re­tune when UHF chan­nels 52 to 69 are cleared and re-as­signed to new chan­nels.

No new tele­vi­sion equip­ment will be needed, but if you watch TV via an an­tenna, you will need to re­tune your equip­ment to keep re­ceiv­ing all the dig­i­tal TV chan­nels.

Res­i­dents ex­pe­ri­enc­ing chan­nel drop-outs or pix­e­la­tion of im­ages now may need to re­tune their TV or up­grade their ex­ter­nal an­tenna.
