Free dental checks for dogs

Central and North Burnett Times - - NEWS -

THERE will be free dental checks on dogs to stop poor oral hygiene causing more complex health issues.

Kidney, heart and liver disease can all be associated with dental disease as increased bacteria in the mouth end up circulating in the body, causing all kinds of systemic illness.

“Our pets don’t clean their teeth like they used to so plaque and tartar build up around teeth and start breeding bacteria,” Dr Anja Schmidt, who works at Animals Veterinary Services Mundubbera, said.

“This leads to inflammation, pain and eventual loss of the attachments that hold the teeth in place.”

She said dental disease was one of the most common problems she saw.

The free dental health checks are available until the end of August.
