Locals live male dream for beer ad
STARRING in a beer advertisement was not what Monto’s Russell McLurcan planned for a lazy Saturday afternoon about four months ago.
But when Great Northern brewery came knocking, looking for three blokes who wouldn’t mind $250 and an afternoon of free beer in return for their time, Mr McLurcan said he couldn’t refuse.
“It was a dream come true really, starring in a beer ad in my own backyard,” he said.
Russell’s dad, Jock McLurcan, was recruited to find the best beer-drinking spot in Cania Gorge and he volunteered his two boys, Russell and Trevor, along with Tyson Jarvis, for the job.
“They wanted three blokes with no beer bellies and those were the first three that came to mind,” Jock said.
They met by the edge of Cania Dam at 2pm, when Russell, Trevor and Tyson spent more than four hours modelling for the crew.
“They even came around with a spray bottle to keep the beers we were drinking looking frosty,” Tyson said. “It was a bit of a party.” The first of the billboards, featuring the boys with their fishing rods and a Great Northern beer in their hands, went up outside Bundaberg recently.
