School athletes shine

RUNNING, cheering, sprinting, hop step and jumping – it beats schoolwork any day.

Mundubbera State P-10 Secondary Interhouse Athletics Carnival was held last Friday and students arrived at the school early for warm ups, stretching and rub downs.

The school is divided into two sports houses, Cooroman and Goola.

The only record broken on the day was in the girls’ 14-years 100m sprint when Shawna Pope smashed the record with a time of 13.16s to beat the old record of 13.3s.

Shawna said she thought the day went well.

“All the events were very close and the participation of students was very high, ”she said.

“I am happy with my sprinting today. I just wish I could have jumped a little better.”

Cooroman house finished first with 661.5 points, Goola house finished with 617.5, and the Jumping Trophy and Running Trophy both went to Cooroman.

The day ended with some of the most awesome war cries ever heard.
