Nail danger for roadside travellers
HANDFULS of nails were scattered all over the entrance to an overnight rest-stop in Monto this weekend.
Tasmanian caravan traveller Glenn Whatley discovered the nails on Monday morning and said he believed it was a deliberate act.
He said they were scattered evenly over the 5m x 3m section of road leading in to the area at the end of Monto’s main street.
“I spent about four hours picking them up,” he said.
The area has not been approved as an RV rest stop by North Burnett Regional Council.
Kay and Brian Bridekirk defended their decision to stay at the gravel area near the Monto rail line, stating there was an app promoting the site on Wiki-camps.
“Everyone with an iPad uses this app to find out about free campsites; that’s why you’ll be seeing people pull up here,” Mr Bridekirk said last month.
“And we will all assume it’s allowed if it’s up on the website.”
