Stud to show its quality
AN EVENT on August 22 will be the fourth year that Clint and Robyn Whitaker of Mundubbera have conducted an open day on their Burnett Park property.
“We’re often asked, ‘do open days work?’” said Mr Whitaker, ofWhitaker Brahmans and Charbrays.
“One thing’s for certain, they’re a lot of hard work and every year we immediately question our need to do it again.
“But when the dust settles we reflect on the benefits and start planning for next year.”
TheWhitakers offer stock for sale on their open day.
Included in this year’s draft will be polled and (de)horned charbray bulls. They cater for all breeder preferences by offering charbrays of 50/50 brahman/charolais content through to 75% charolais, 25% brahman. On offer also
Clint Whitaker The friendships we’ve gained over this short time make the hard work all the more worthwhile.
will be one grey brahman bull and a pen of commercial charbray heifers.
In years past, open day patrons have indicated their bull preference during the Charbray National, Rockhampton Brahman Week, Charters Towers Big Country and Monto All Breeds sales.
They looked at bulls on display, followed these bulls to sale and purchased them for their breeding herds.
This year Whitaker Charbray bulls will sell at the Monto All Breeds bull sale on September 13 (lots 28–31) and the Charbray National bulls will sell at Gracemere on September 24 (lots 24–30).
At this year’s Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale, Whitaker Brahman Stud will offer four grey brahman bulls on day two, October 4 (lots 397–400), and two red brahman bulls (lots 767 and 768) the next day.
TheWhitakers have also had clients of the open day indicate and fulfil their desire to return and purchase paddock bulls for their operations.
The couple has realised, through the sale of their quality charbray heifers at the open day, that these cattle attract competitive rates and foster repeat buyers.
“Whilst the sales are very welcome, it’s the knowledge that we’ve run an enjoyable community experience that really tops it off for both Robyn and myself,” Mr Whitaker said.
“And the friendships we’ve gained over this short time make the hard work all the more worthwhile.”
Go to the open day at 117 Gayndah-Mundubbera Rd, Mundubbera, from 9am–4pm, Friday, August 22.
