Tiarna’s rhyme is just in time

Central and North Burnett Times - - NEWS -

FIVE lines and two words to rhyme with her name were the secret to a Year 5 student’s winning limerick.

Gayndah State School student Tiarna Merrell won the Project 600 limerick competition with a clever verse:

There once was a girl called, Tiarna

Who had a yellow pet iguana She fed him apple And then it turned dapple And now she only feeds him banana

While teacher Ms Roberts gave her some clues, Tiarna said she was simply looking for something that rhymed with her name. It was a winning decision. Project 600 was an online learning program conducted by Education Queensland for Year 5 students all across Queensland, to develop reading and comprehension skills.

Students participated in lessons for about 15 weeks, with the limerick competition held at the end of the course.
