GAYNDAH Guardian Pharmacy has triumphed in competition with 400 stores to take out the Community Engagement Pharmacy of the Year Award.

Winners of the Pharmacy of the Year Award for three years running, owners Graham and Samantha Rowles said the “spine-tingling” win meant everything to them.

“We are so far ahead of our metro competitors... and they wanted to recognise a small community pharmacy like ourselves are blowing others out of the water,” Mrs Rowles said.

“We’ve never had the strength and the compassion in the team as what we do now, and it’s a recipe we don’t want to lose.”

Accepting the award, Mr Rowles attributed the pharmacy’s success to his staff and the amazing community in which they live.

“That’s basically why we do our job – it’s for the community,” he said.

Mrs Rowles said “we embrace our community” to ensure the success of different clubs and organisations, and “to support them 100%”.

The award, which beat out sister pharmacy Guardian Mundubbera and three other finalists, was given at the Sigma Pharmacy Assistants Conference last weekend.

With two pharmacy assistants – Samantha Shorten (Gayndah) and Jessica Dobson (Mundubbera) – as finalists the team had a lot to celebrate.

Mrs Rowles said it was an honour to be nominated as finalists in both categories, pharmacy and pharmacy assistant, and to compete against all three brands – Amcal, Amcal Max and Guardian.
